Get the job that will launch your career with the help of our talented coach
Whether you're at a professional step in your career, or just starting out, the first item in your toolbox that you will need is a headshot that represents you. We have a couple of recommendations but that's not what we do.
Even if you have representation, you will still need the ability to send in a virtual audition to casting. If you don't have the professional tools to do so, that's where we can help, providing not only a reader but professional lights, audio, camera and the ability to edit your audition to send it to your representative or casting directly. Since this service is provided on an hourly basis, it's best to come fully prepared, Concentrate on the character development. Whether you do it yourself or pay someone, it's mandatory to follow to the letter the specific taping instructions received from Casting or your Agent. Failure to do so will result in your audition not being submitted to the Buyer of your talent. As to wardrobe, pick something that suggests your character (not a uniform) but make sure: No stripes, No prints, No sparkles, Neither all black nor all white. The background for your audition with us is light grey so don't wear grey or you will fade into the background. Be prepared to slate as requested in the casting notice, say it distinctly and clearly. This is your first meeting with casting. Create your space and the moment before. After booking your appointment with a phone call, make sure you send the sides of your audition via email to info@WeavingDreamsEntertainment.com prior to your audition and print out the sides for your reader.
If a picture is worth 1,000 words, then how about moving pictures? For actors, that's invaluable. It creates a trust in your prospective employer, shows you are serious about your career and with the electronic age we live in, no courier in the world can get your demo reel to casting or a prospective representative faster than the internet. A reel is just as important as the headshot is for your calling card. Many times when searching for representation, you will also need a demo reel. Why? It permits the buyer of your talent to feel safe in hiring you. A good demo reel sends the message "Relax, I can and will carry my end of the rope" and to the agent, manager or casting director it says, "Yes, I am a professional and no I won't embarrass you."
To Get Started:
Review your materials and catalog the beginning and ending time codes of your source material. Example "Carrie - 12:14-20:20 (Mom attacks Carrie) . Be choosey, this saves time and your editing $$$. Provide editor with .mov or .mp4 clips. Don't include stage performances or scenes just because you're opposite a famous actor. In this case you're background unless you have a dialogue with the star. Don't include scenes where you're just looking out a window or sitting at a table, unless you're at a window looking out at the end of the scene as tears stream down your face as you watch your beautiful city of Dresden is burning. Otherwise, again this is background. Also find clips that represent a different type of character to show your range.
What If You Don't have Any Film On You and You're non-union?
Contact your local universities and audition for student films, commercials, Industrials as most of the pay for these types of jobs are in the form of a copy of the film, and be friendly with the editor requesting copies of your. scene.. If it's a non-union commercial with a buy out, you may have difficulty in getting a copy of the same unless you have "outside" resources.
Things to Consider
Your reel should only be as long as your material and, if good, 5 minutes max. Nowadays you can upload individual clips and/or reel up to many of the casting sites, However, now agents and casting are requesting a minimum of one minute of film to send along with your audition tape. Always put your strongest material FIRST. You need to WOW THEM IN THE FIRST 15 SECONDS. The purpose of a reel is to show the decision makers you can act at a professional level; you look like your headshot; and you have that certain something they're looking for. Separating emotional attachment to a scene is tough but the reel has to be about scenes that will work hard for you, not scenes you worked hard on. If you only have commercial copy or one or a few great clips, we can add the commercial clips to the reel with the goal of cutting beginnings and endings where the product placement usually goes which in certain instances can become indistinguishable from a feature or TV show. If it's all dancing, singing, selling all the time, then pass for your theatrical reel and create a separate commercial reel, Also provide your editor with several professional pictures to be included in a montage. As long as your reel shows that you are good, talented, believable, loved by the camera and the production values don't actively work against you, that's what counts at this stage.
Upload your reel, pictures and resumes to the various casting sites including ActorsAccess, NowCasting, LACasting. Do not send out your reel if unsolicitied. Continually update your reel with BETTER MATERIAL. We can also update your reel at the same $49.99 hourly rate with no hourly minimums if your reel was prepared by us. Why? We have a great understanding of what sells and what doesn't. If your current reel isn't doing you justice, it may just need some fine tuning and re-doing your reel.
Let's have a conversation first. Note if you have not done your homework as suggested above and wish the Editor to do that for you, you might be paying more for this service. In other words if you cannot provide the requested media format, the costs rise since you will then be paying extra to include digitizing feature films in real time, editing each film clips, adding graphics, entering the same to a time line, and if requested burn to a DVD, those services are provided on actual time basis at hourly rate. As always there is a 20% discount for SAG-AFTRA members.
Last minute audition and after hours? No problem, give us a call and we'll fit you in. Taping is $49.99 per hour with 20% discount for SAG-AFTRA union members. Taping includes editing and sending off your best performance to casting to book that job.. Be prepared to send sides prior to your scheduled taping session.
